A waste collection truck dumps food waste gathered from six businesses on a Friday route during the pilot of Fayetteville’s food waste composting program.
A “row turner” dices the waste into smaller pieces and turns it in with the mixture below.
The fresh pile of food waste mix is added to the waste collected earlier in the week.
The food waste is piled on top of a yard waste compost/mulch mixture.
The flattened, diced row is pushed back into a pile.
Enzymes are thrown onto the pile to start the Modified Static Aerobic Pile composting process.
Piles compost for four to six weeks.
Internal temperatures should reach 140°
