The First Picnic, 1898: This photograph, labeled “The First Picnic,” The event started out as a town picnic to is thought to have been taken 116 years ago celebrate the Feast of St. Peter, but soon at the first celebration of what is now called the grape festival in Tontitown. The photograph was taken by Father Pietro Bandini and is labeled in what is believed to be his handwriting. The event started out as a town picnic to celebrate the Feast of St. Peter, but soon expanded to a full day of festivities known as “Grape Day” and eventually evolved into the multi-day festival that exists today.
